The National Archives, Kew, hold some business and Stationer’s Hall copyright records as well as census and other records that include biographical data eg naturalisation, war records, wills, etc. The short film below shows the reflective surface of a daguerreotype. Once all pictures were taken, that individual, at a cost of $10, was able to mail their camera to the Eastman Kodak company in Rochester, New York, where the roll of film was removed and made into prints. The carte-de-visite was undoubtedly the most popular form of 19th-century photography: the Victorian era’s answer to the ‘selfie’. Medical Portraits (list 148)
